Monday Menu ~ 6/27/11
Well I must say I was super lucky this week – I entered a giveaway from Hybrid Rasta Mama for the Against the Grains eBook written by Modern Alternative Mama, and I won!
Let me tell you – there are some amazing looking recipes in this book! Some will be featured in this week’s meal plan, and I want to try out just about every one eventually.
We are still attempting to go grain free as much as possible, though I’ll admit we’re far from perfect about it – it is SO hard sometimes to break up this love affair with grains!
But I am starting to feel more on the icky side when I do eat grains and/or sugar – definite inspiration to continue in their limitation.
The Crunchy Convert wrote on her Facebook status the other day that her family is trying really hard to eat whole, healthy foods but as someone who was raised on processed foods, they continue to both repel and attract her.
I was kind of glad to see I’m not the only one who feels that way!
But as I responded to her (and needed to remind myself) – we have made some pretty amazing changes over the past months – and breaking the habits of a LIFETIME is something that is going to be a journey…it’s not something that’s just going to happen in a week or two.
I have to remind myself of this because I do often get frustrated when I look at my belly and see no change, or when I eat super healthy for 5 days and then just 1 or 2 days of junk eating seems to put me right back where I started.
What I need to start seeing is that in the very recent past, 5 days of super healthy eating wouldn’t have even factored in my life. And that 1 or 2 days that brings it all down just reinforces how awful that stuff really is.
So I’ll continue to take it one day at a time, and appreciate the opportunity to be honest over my struggles – another factor that has never come into play very often in the past (where I chose to mainly sweep it all under a rug and not discuss it).
I do also have a small victory to celebrate this week – I mentioned last week how it was my tendency to be really lazy about housework lately and that was something I wanted to change – and I did!
Bean spent the day with her grandparents last Wednesday and I took the opportunity to do some major cleaning – but I didn’t just leave it at that – I actually maintained the clean throughout the rest of the week!
I know, it’s not really that special or exciting, but it was for me! Now I just have to get that pile of laundry tackled…

Um… gotta say that getting the house clean AND keeping it that way is a humongously special and exciting thing to me! I need someone to take Little Guy off of my hands for a day (or four!) so I can get everything into perfect order. I am positive that, if I spend that much time really cleaning well, I'll make sure to keep it that way. The last time I did anything that resembles deep-cleaning and major organizing was back in my second trimester when that nesting bug hit me (I swear, I had a toothbrush and was scrubbing in between the no-wax floor tiles – it was pretty bad!)
Thanks Alicia
I was kind of ashamed to admit in my post how long it had been since my kitchen was totally clean!
That was one thing that was sad to me about pregnancy – I never got any nesting/strong desire to clean type feelings. Hopefully next time around lol…

I'm considering going grain free too…or just *less* in general. I'm wheat free…why not grain free??
