This month’s letter is written by Daddy…
Dear Baby Bean,
18 months ago you were in Mommy’s belly, smaller than an actual bean. 9 months ago you were born. I was there to watch you take your first breath of air. You were so small back then. Today you are nine months old. You are still and always will be my little Baby Bean, though you have grown quite a bit in the last nine months!
You know how to feed yourself (sort of). I’m so proud of you and how you figured how to put food in your mouth. You crawl so fast now, too. I can barely keep up.
On top of that, your strength never ceases to amaze me. Your little hands have such amazing grip strength. Sometimes you can really hurt people with your pinches. You even made Luther yelp in pain once.
You sit up so well and can even catch yourself when you start to fall. I am amazed at how well you can pull yourself up to a standing position. Pretty soon you’ll be able to stand on your own feet without holding onto anything for balance.
You are enthralled with Sage the cat. As fast as you are crawling, I’m not sure you’ll be able to catch him. It’s OK though; he likes you, and he likes you petting him. I try to show you to pet him gently. He likes soft strokes when you pet him, and you can’t pull his tail or pinch his fur. He’s smaller and more delicate than Luther.
Speaking of your puppy, you can pull his short stubby tail, that is, if you can get a hand on it. Luther doesn’t mind you being rougher with him, he can take it. I love how you crawl into Luther’s crate and walk around inside. I don’t think he minds sharing it with you. You two play so well together. He has learned to be extra careful with you. He likes to lick your face and you love his puppy kisses. I see you trying to kiss him back and it is so cute.
Lately, you have taken after your father in regards to your sleep patterns. Why don’t you like sleeping anymore? Bean, I have no choice but to get up at 4AM. But you, you can sleep anytime you want and wake up anytime you want. Sleep is good baby button. You should sleep more.
Do you think you will miss out on all the fun if you close your eyes?
I have to admit, it is frustrating at times, but I know this is something that you as a baby must go through. I know the teething that you are going through isn’t helping anything either.
I can almost see your first tooth poking out. Pretty soon you will have an entire mouthful of teeth. Your cute little gummy smile will be gone. I’ll have to teach you to brush your teeth well so you can have a beautiful white toothy smile.
You give the best baby kisses. I love every time you kiss my cheek.
I just want you to know that I will always love you, even if you choose never to sleep again.
Love,
Daddy

So precious!! I love it. Hands-on daddies are the best. I love seeing my husband connect so sweetly to our little girl too. And we're in the same boat… why does Baby Girl think that 5am is an acceptable time to get up for the day? Even on a Saturday??

lol I guess they don't get that whole weekend thing yet.
Our Bean has always been up around 5, which is actually OK – husband takes her while I get to sleep for a few more hours (our dog gets up at 4 and needs a walk!). It is more the not wanting to nap or go to bed thing that's troubling us right now, but I do think it's mainly due to teething…
Aw! I wonder if my dh would actually write something. I always love it when I hear his insights because we each notice different things. I think I'll show him this post.
I love watching the relationship grow between our furry babies and our human babies. I've had the same experience with our pets instinctually knowing how to be gentle-and to put up with poking that they wouldn't put up with from anyone who should know better. Have you read, "Tails Are Not For Pulling" with Bean, yet? My kids loved that series. We pull them out anytime there's a resurgence of bugging the dog or hitting, kicking, biting or harsh words.

Definitely get him to! It is a lot of fun to see the other perspective.
I hadn't heard of that book series – sounds great, though! Thanks for the recommendation, Zoie!
We will add it to our list…
Must admit, I got a bit teary. What a beautiful letter! They grow so fast…
